Maybe you prefer to weave in between your foes, leading their attacks towards each other, and turning them against one another. With a full arsenal of mid-century firearms and explosives, you'll be well equipped to slaughter everything in your path - provided you don't get slaughtered first. CULTIC was styled to feel like a throwback to the shooters of yore, but with the advantages of a modern engine, such as physics, lighting, and a fully 3D game world. Cultic (officially styled as CULTIC) is a retro first-person shooter by Jason Smith (aka Jasozz Games) using the Unity engine, published by 3D Realms and announced during Realms Deep 2021 on August 14th. It takes distinct inspiration from the original Blood, featuring an protagonist rising from the grave to take on robe wearing cultists. The game also features a muted colour palette of browns and greys, similar outdoors environments and familiar weaponry such as dynamite with zippo, machine gun, and sawed-off shotgun. Unlike Blood however, the game is not planned to feature a spoken protagonist ala Caleb. While the concept for the game was well received, the faux retro art style with heavy colour filtering has received criticism, although it can be modified in the game's settings. An updated demo was sent out for Steam Next Fest on June 14, 2022, with the first chapter released on October 13, 2022 to complimentary reviews. A further second chapter is planned as paid downloadable content.
