Atari is a famous video game company that has had numerous ups and downs in its history. In 1999, the Atari brand was acquired by Infogrames, which later re-branded themselves to match with the more famous name.

Infogrames acquired GT Interactive, publisher of the Blood and Blood II: The Chosen, in December 1999, one of the most expensive acquisitions in the company's history. In 2003, IESA renamed the company to Atari, Inc. In 2008, IESA fully acquired the company, and rebranded themselves to Atari SA.

A deal made in 2010 between Good Old Games and Atari allowed for the sale some of their older game titles and franchises on the service, something that made the Blood games legally available for purchase for the first time as a digital download. The games have since also appeared on Steam and can now be purchased directly from Atari's website.

On December 7, 2018 it was announced that Atari had granted Night Dive Studios a license to release a remastered version of the original Blood. This came to be as Blood: Fresh Supply on May 9, 2019. On March 22, 2023 it was announced that it was purchasing Night Dive outright, after having previously held a minority stake.
